Are you the type consumer that always has a little bit of difficulty to make up your mind when it comes to a purchasing decision? Perhaps you are putting off redecorating your child’s room due to your inability to select a particular paint color. It is not easy to make a decision and it can be tough because you are not sure you will be happy with the end result when it is all finished. Additionally, you may not have experienced with the steps involved with wallpaper, stencils, or other additional processes. Because of this you may be stuck in the proverbial doldrums because risking disappointment is not a position you want to be in.

Or perhaps you are a consumer who redecorates a home constantly. No sooner than you finished painting and rearranging a room and move on to the next job even if you have already redecorated the same room last year. It might be because you have grown tired of the theme and opt to try some new with the room. Nothing remains the same for very long at your home and your family members can never get used to the various new looks of the room that you devise.

Whether you’re so finicky you can’t make up your mind and commit or a fickle decorator who changes her mind from one week to the next, wall clings are the perfect decorating solution. Wall clings are easy to adhere and easy to remove, so if you don’t like the arrangement, you can change it whether that is immediately because you put one on crooked or next month because you need variety.

It is possible to use wall clings to decorate a baby’s room and then immediately change the decor when your child grows a little older and into a toddler, a preschooler, and even when the child enters into elementary school. By the time you child reaches his or her teen, you may have redesigned room with window clings multiple times. Regardless of the number of time you have changed the room’s style and decor with very little effort and expense. This is because redesigning the room shall not include any requirements centering on repainting or hanging new wallpaper.

Once the child grows in age and when the youngster wishes to offer input into the decorating choices, it is possible to easily accept such input. It is possible to let your son or daughter make decisions on the designs and then place them on the walls, furniture, woodworking, doors, window frames, or whatever surfaces your child opts to decorate.

It is true that decorating these days is much easier thanks to the inclusion of wall clings in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, colors, and designs. These clings are a great way to remain on the cutting edge and to stay on top of current trends. You could also modernize the room with the least amount of effort or exertion. It is possible to give your child’s room and see how quickly you are sold on the benefits of wall cling decor.

Decorate Your Home With a Cleopatra Touch

Posted by Michael Brown | Interior Design | Saturday 26 September 2009 9:24 am
by Michael Brown

An Egyptian woman once wrapped herself in a large rug in order to deliver herself to Julius Caesar who was about to take over her country. That’s right, Cleopatra was the one who brought the importance of area rugs even long ago. After convincing Julius Caesar to form an alliance instead she saved her country and it all started with a rug.

Of course you can’t use an area rug to make friends but you can enjoy all the many different ways you can obtain an area rug. You can also appreciate how multi-functional an area rug is. And an area rug can be ready for pickup as soon as you order it, Cleopatra had to wait about a year to get hers.

You can find area rugs in different colors, shapes, and sizes as well as materials. If you are preparing to purchase an area rug then you will need to measure for it first. Why do you want a rug in the first place? For a focal point? Warmth? Or a combination?

Today you have access to rugs that can fit into any budget. You can shop online or in a store. This will help you find the most practical choice for you. So you don’t have to just settle for a rug, get what you want.

If you are looking for a rug to focus attention on one area or particular furnishing, choose a small sized rug. If you have a room that you would like to see more coordinated and blended, use several small rugs of the same color scattered about to tie the room together. Conversely, if you have a room you would like to appear as divided into sections, rugs of differing colors placed around the room effectively “partition” a room. The same applies to whether to choose one large or several small rugs for a room. One large rug most definitely unites and blends a room as do several small rugs of similar color. To “divide” a room requires several small rugs of various colors.

You can’t just throw the rugs down and call it a look. You want to make sure that you place the rugs properly in your room so you get the look you want.

It helps to plan ahead and use the right rug for your space.

Decorating With Kitchen Area Rugs

Posted by Bernie Johnson | Interior Design | Wednesday 23 September 2009 10:48 am
by Bernie Johnson

Are you wondering what to do with your kitchen for a new look? Have you ever thought about using area rugs in your kitchen? After this article you may think again.

When decorating your kitchen many don’t ever think of placing area rugs in their kitchen. We wonder why you hardly see this in any design other than the living room and hallways. Area rugs will brighten up a room’s decor along with making it cozier when you’re in the environment.

Make sure the area rugs which you choose for your kitchen or any room for that matter are washable. You don’t want to have the hassle of having them specially cleaned when they get dirty. Throwing in the wash and hanging on the line is a quick clean up for many! Always remember with area rugs NOT to place them in the dryer. Many will loose their shape but in some cases the backing on them will come off and there isn’t a use for the rug any longer.

Also try to look for one that matches your kitchen’s theme well. Braided rugs and Oriental rugs add greatly to the kitchen’s atmosphere. Use a brightly-colored rug for that dull-looking kitchen to brighten things up. Or use patterned ones for those kitchens with more discernible themes such as country and Western. Whatever your taste and style, just remember that it’s a choice that will pay off in the long run -or at least until you choose to redecorate your kitchen.

How else is a rug useful in the kitchen? Let’s visualize another scenario: Say you are preparing food for a lot of people. That naturally entails extensive use of the countertop, and you would be in the kitchen for possibly hours-and that is not far-off a possibility as you might think. Now wouldn’t it be nice you had a nice, soft rug to step on the entire time? Not only is it a lot more comfortable, but it also helps prevent slippage -something that happens surprisingly often in kitchens especially during the busiest and most hectic of moments.

Make sure the area rug of your choice is comfortable to the touch, washable, and matches the theme. You’ll wonder why you didn’t think of placing one in the kitchen before!

How to Make a Statement With Your Home’s Entryway

Posted by Sean Perry | Interior Design | Monday 21 September 2009 10:32 am
by Sean Perry

When a visitor comes to your home what is the first thing they see? They see your entryway. So you want it to be welcoming and you can give that feeling with your decor. The greatest way to say “welcome” is by simply decorating the entryway properly.

Before you begin decorating your entryway you need to think about what mood you want to place in your entryway; tranquil, charming, or lived in. You can even make it appear formal.

If your entry way is small or large you can create the look you want to reflect to your guests every time they open the door. If it is large then you can add a hall tree or a storage bench. This will give your guests room to take off their dirty shoes and wet coats.

For a warm, tranquil setting to greet guests as well as those who pass through the doors on a daily basis, an indoor fountain is an excellent furnishing accessory. The sound of trickling water is soothing and pleasant, sure to calm all those who come through your doors. For any art lover the entryway is the first opportunity to show off your collection and state your taste to your guests.

Even though oft ignored, lighting has a very important role in the decor of your entryway. If you desire a soothing, warm atmosphere for your entryway, employ lighting that complements the look rather than detracting from it. For a calm mood, indirect soft lighting works wonders. Displaying artwork requires lighting appropriate to showing it off, perhaps wall sconces or mini-sconce lights. If the entryway is large with a high ceiling, a chandelier would be in order. You may combine ceiling and wall lighting to achieve any mood; don’t feel you are restricted to one lighting style.

Entryway decor can set the mood of your home. You can highlight your entry way with natural stone flooring with marble, onyx, or granite.

Rugs are the last thing your entryway needs to make it look perfect. It doesn’t matter what look you are going for; modern, traditional, or quaint you can find a look that is right for you and can be complete by adding an area rug. Rugs can help protect your flooring as well as keep the floors warm.

You want to make the best first impression so to do this you need the right lighting, the best decor, and a beautiful area rug. It’s amazing how that one moment can mean so much.

Hypoallergenic Decorating, Is It Sterile?

Posted by Joseph Kershaw | Interior Design | Sunday 20 September 2009 11:21 am

As you know no matter how much you try to keep allergens out of the house it doesn’t necessarily work. Many think that Hypoallergenic is sterile and you can’t have a style when choosing this option, that isn’t the case!

No matter what you do you’ll always have some type of dust in the home. It is hard to keep your house fully cleaned but you can contribute tremendously with just a bit of knowledge. Of course you really can’t help with pet dander unless you’re able to find hairless animals.

If you’re able to reduce the humidity to at least 50 percent in your home for half of the year you’ll be able to keep out more dust mites and other dander which grow mold. Depending on the way your home is set up will determine if this is possible for you.

Another easy way to keep your home in the hypoallergenic style is using clean and simple lines when decorating. They also sell hypoallergenic fabrics that will reduce the conditions.

Fortunately, there are three home decor styles that promote a hypoallergenic home: Traditional, Casual and Contemporary. A Traditional home is among the most common, in which furnishings are classic and their placement is orderly. A Casual decor gives an inviting feeling of homey comfort, with soft, oversized furniture in slipcovers. A Contemporary decor has clean, sharp lines, metallic surfaces and a minimalist setting, but can be made warm through color choices.

If you’re able to remove all the carpet in your home, you’ll reduce the allergies brought into the home. Switching the carpet out for hardwood flooring will also eliminate time and give you a great new look. You’re still able to purchase area rugs to place onto the hardwood but it is quite simpler to clean an area rug rather than an entire home filled with wall to wall carpeting.

Cleanliness in a hypoallergenic room is a must especially when it comes to furniture. You want to make sure that any furniture which is available to have slip covers placed upon them is done. This will eliminate the worrying of the furniture cushions becoming caught with dust. You’re able to remove slip covers and place them in the wash with your other towels or lines.

If you are someone who collects specific items such as art or other knickknacks try placing them in a china cabinet. This will also give you less dusty items since all those little knickknacks would be a great dust catcher in the long run. Placing them in a cabinet which is closed will also give you style.

For bedrooms, especially for children, choose bedding that has been tested to be “hypoallergenic.” Once again, no product will totally remove allergens, but can reduce them significantly. Wash bedding frequently to reduce the likelihood of dust mites.

Always remember no matter the little changes you do your allergies will be reduced.

Interior Decorators all agree that it is vital to decorate with area rugs. One of the most sort after is Dynamic Rugs Charisma Collection.

Home Decor On A Budget

Posted by Sharon Watkinson | Interior Design | Sunday 20 September 2009 10:52 am

Remember that old song “Secondhand Rose,” about the young woman who seemed to get all of life’s hand-me-downs? That’s the idea behind the home decor style known as Shabby Chic, and more people are turning to it these days as a way to have a stylish home without high cost.

Shabby Chic is based on what you want it to be. There isn’t quite a full definition to Shabby Chic but you can always make one up as you go. If you want a bit of a definition to Shabby Chic lets say it is the new life for furniture which many throw away that have nicks and dents.

Using Shabby Chic as your home decor means developing a sharp eye for a piece of furniture, fabric, bric-a-brac or other object that might be worn but still has a few years left in it. Most of all, something that qualifies as Shabby Chic exudes that indefinable quality of charm.

If you find something which look like it’s been worn and had its life sucked out of it, paint peeling, rust and other nicks and scratches, you’ve found Shabby Chic material. Those few qualities that others think are trash is actually the start of something new.

Second hand stores are great to shop around for this style. There are many older pieces which would work wonderfully in these styled rooms such as old scarves, lace, and overstuffed armchairs.

Here are a few tips on designing your own Shabby Chic room.

Look through your storage spaces, and those of relatives, friends and neighbors, for unused furniture, fabrics or home decor accessories. Next, browse flea markets, yard sales and secondhand stores regularly. It takes time, but the results are worth it.

Select carefully a few items to pair with your existing furniture and decor. You could try whitewashing or painting furniture, but remember, distressed surfaces add style to Shabby Chic. To hurry along the look of passing years, lightly sand wood furniture in several places.

Color palettes for Shabby Chic can be anywhere from grays, whites, creams, and additional pink, blue, and green splashes. Think about the Victorian theme colors. Less bright is better.

Top tables with old scarves and candles, and put plenty of pillows on the furniture. Old coffee-table books on gardening and flowers are also a nice touch.

Finally, remember the wise words of the old horse trainer in that marvelous film “Seabiscuit:” You don’t throw away a whole life just because it’s banged up a little. Objects with visible flaws, blemishes, nicks, dents, scratches – they all have a home in Shabby Chic design.

This last guideline is especially good news for those of us who inherited the chipped and nicked glassware and china our mothers, aunts and grandmothers couldn’t bear to throw away! Thanks to Shabby Chic design, we can display these blemished heirlooms with the pride our ancestors felt when they were shiny and new.

Leading Home Designers have finally revealed that rugs are their number one choice for home decorating. And this Anji Mountain Bamboo Rug Co Sisal Collection, has been very popular this year.

Choosing Colors For A Restful Bedroom

Posted by Phil Paterson | Interior Design | Monday 14 September 2009 10:36 am

Everyday stress can make it difficult to relax when you do finally get home. Speaking of home, this is the one place that people feel they can go to relax. The bedroom is the main room in the house used to relax in. So in order to make it more relaxing you may need to do a few thing to get your own private sanctuary.

Nature has a way of soothing you so why not bring those colors into your room? The cool meadows and restful glades can make our inner soul feel nurtured and relaxed.

With the trend toward neutrals in all home decorating this year, neutral colors also are finding their way into bedrooms; in area rugs, in sheets and in curtains too. However, these neutrals aren’t blah or stark, being softened by combinations of green and brown that have been popular recently.

It’s important to choose the right shades of green though, say designers. That’s because some hues, such as acid green, can be more stimulating than restful. Furthermore, it’s a good idea to compare the green shade to you skin tone, because it will be reflected in your mirror and on your skin. That last thing you want is to glance in your bedroom mirror and see yourself as a sickly green alien. Go for cozy, not cosmic.

The environmental generation is bringing back the classic colors like blue and green. It’s about choosing colors that are restful. For example green is the color of plants and trees. Blue reminds you of water and sky. Blue is also considered a cool color that can cleanse and sooth. It still remains the number one choice of color for the bedroom.

Have you every thought about lavender for your bedroom? Lavender is a calming color. Lavender goes well with green and lavender can be placed in bed linen spray and sachets for your drawers and closets. But don’t go overboard with it.

For this year the color of choice for a bedroom is pink. This is not a usual color of choice when it comes to making the bedroom feel relaxing but this year it will be.

When we talk about pink we don’t mean the pastel color, instead the bright vibrant shade of pink and delicately placed over a yellow undertone. Pink has always been the color of choose for girls and women alike. Now pink is helping to decorate homes, especially in the bedroom.

If you think that these colors are too much then add some glamour to your room. Cover one wall in silk fabric or add a crystal chandelier. You can even accent the bed, windows, rugs, and more with gold.

What really matters is the bedroom is a relaxing place for you and it brings your personality out. You should feel happy and relaxed when you are in your bedroom.

Top Tips To Fix Your Decorating Mistakes

Posted by Jason Carter | Interior Design | Sunday 13 September 2009 11:33 am

Its easy to make a mistake when decorating. As your mom always said; it’s not that you make the mistakes it’s what you learn from them.

You don’t have to rid your home of what you like the best but you do need to rearrange it somewhat. It’s about blending your favorite colors, fabrics, or accents with the decor. Hopefully your favorite does not include fake wood paneling and an orange shag carpet or we have a major problem.

Follow these tips and you’ll have a beautifully decorated home in no time. Plus, you’ll be able to show Mom how well you learned from your interior design boo-boos.

Tip No. 1: Quality is more important that quantity in collectibles

Yes, those Star Wars action figures are adorable, but a whole curio cabinet of them? Dudes and dudettes, that’s as off-putting as Grandma’s racks of collectible spoons! Your living is not the Museum of Popular Culture. Choose one or two key pieces that show what a fan-boy or fan-girl you are, like that mint condition original “Raiders of the Lost Ark” poster you can get framed and hang on the wall. Otherwise, store the stuff and rotate it occasionally. Be your own best curator.

Tip No. 2: It’s all about framing

If you still use unframed posters on the wall with duct tape you need to redo them. Use black and white photos or some movie posters in good shape. Frame them before you hang them. Only one or two pieces are enough.

Tip No. 3: Make sure your furniture matches your space

Avoid using oversized and overstuffed furniture in the room. Visualize furniture that will fit into the room and up against the wall. You want to avoid using furniture that will make the room look smaller. If you can’t get a sectional through the front door then move onto something you know will fit. You want to make sure that you have enough space for a 65-inch television before you go out and buy it. Just make sure that you are realistic when you decorate.

Tip No. 4: Outdoor furniture belongs outside

It’s not all that comfortable and it looks ridiculous in your home so don’t waste your time placing camping furniture in your room. If your space is small you can find some of the most modern furniture that is perfect for little spaces.

Tip No. 5: Say goodbye to the Kitsch

You can no longer display your favorites that you have had since you were a teen. Guys, you can no longer have the neon palm trees, lava lamps, or street signs displayed in your living room. And girls, it’s time to put the stuffed animals, cute bed linens, boy band posters, and Barbie dolls away. Store them for your kids.

There are the five tips to help you fix those mishaps that may be hindering your style. Get busy and correct those mistakes before company comes over.

Hardware Is Your Home’s Selling Point

Posted by Christine Carrier | Interior Design | Saturday 12 September 2009 7:54 am

Do you have a hardware at home? If your answer is either a no or I don’t know, then you haven’t really explored the interesting dynamics of your home or you’re just not interested. If I were you, I would take a second look and see how a hardware is as much a part of home life as the ever functional kitchen.

Paying attention and upgrading the hardware around the house are actually good advice. Why so? According to articles in national publications, the kitchens and bathrooms, places where home hardware is most obvious, are actually the selling points of most homes. Which means, the better hardware you have or more clearly, the more appealing kitchen and bathrooms you have, the higher the resale value for your house. Selling your place therefore, is not such a bad idea.

Start the project by replacing the handles of the drawers in your kitchen and bathroom. Go all the way and include the handles of your furniture, especially the bigger ones.

At the same time, upgrading door handles also gets people’s attention. Try to find handles that are easy to turn without becoming too institutional. More and more people are becoming aware that all of us are “differently abled” at times, and anything that helps our ease of movement is greatly appreciated.

Rather than keeping towels in cabinets, install stainless steel racks in both bathroom and kitchen. Racks in the kitchen probably will have to be shorter than those in the bathroom, but make the best use of whatever space is available. Using stainless steel racks means that they won’t tarnish or otherwise discolor, and they provide a focal point to display some of your prettiest linens.

Moving on now to the lighting – this is another hardware item that surely deserves attention. What’s a beautiful home without sufficient light, right? Lightings in the bathroom and kitchen should be periodically checked because they are exposed more to moisture. Safety is important. Functional doesn’t have to be boring, so go for lighting fixtures that are eye-catching. There are lamps and overhead lights with vivid colors, designs and shapes.

While they are not strictly hardware, the tiles in kitchen and bathroom are another upgrade that pays big dividends. A good option is to replace outmoded wallpaper in kitchen and bathroom with tile. Again, this is probably the kind of job that requires an expert, but don’t let that stop you if your budget can afford it. Don’t be shy about trading out the boring old traditional styles for something trendier, like bright ethnic designs. After all, if you can’t take some heat in the kitchen.

Polish the look with nice area rugs, as well as with an updated window treatment. If you’ve been using the same old aluminum blinds, it’s time to shake it up and install wood horizontal blinds or acrylic verticals.

Home Decorating has never been this easy with these rugs. Be sure to take a look at this Dynamic Rugs Aria Collection for the latest trends.
